Airports check-in are never much fun but the airport experience you get with Silverjet is superb and frankly second-to-none. Travellers have their own private terminal at the mouth of the Silverjet airport lounge completely sectioned off from the rest of Luton airport. You don’t need to enter the main airport at all if you don’t want to. There are no baggage belts or queues to speak of. You can arrive 30 minutes before take-off or 45 minutes if you have a bag to check-in. The check-in procedure is simple and effortless and I hardly noticed clearing airport security.

I had already chosen my seat on-line and printed off my boarding card. So, I handed this over with my luggage and a few steps later I was in the airport lounge and a minute or so later, newspaper to hand, I was enjoying a hearty champagne breakfast.

On board staff are very friendly and eager to please. The seats are in a two by two formation and I had chosen the window seat. A bottle of mineral water was waiting for me. Lunch arrived and was served on crisp mini table clothes, full size china crockery. There are no trolleys and you are waited on by hand as you would in a restaurant. I opted for the veggie option. This was followed by cheese and biscuits, and much later by chocolate cake and coffee.

The return flight was a night flight. The main lights were kept off and those that were not awake for breakfast, got a take-out to eat on their way home.

Entertainment was a portable tv and there was some great cinematic viewing to choose from. I choose Happy Feet and set the seat to massage me while I watched.

The seat itself was easy to maneuver at a touch of a button, and does adjust to flat, well almost. There is a slight angle, and it felt a little narrow, but otherwise, I managed to get a good few hours sleep.

Finally, from a female perspective, I found it a nice touch that one of the loos was designated ‘for ladies only’.

TTM Rating: 4.5/5

Comment: The seats were a tad narrow, but at the price the Silverjet experience provides great value for money
