I would like to go to Nicosia to see to 2 countries in one go. I've already been to Greece and Turkey and thought Cyprus was the logical next trip. However I don't seem to find any airlines that goes to Cyprus' capital. Do you know how I can get there and if there's any tour operator that can organise accommodation as well?

Dear Helene
Since Turkey invaded in 1963, Cyprus has been divided by a 'Green Line'. To the south is the Republic of Cyprus (southern Cyprus) which has two airports: Larnaka and Pafos. The capital of Nicosia has no airport and is split in half by the Green Line.

The rejection of the UN plan to reunite Cyprus means the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is currently not allowed to receive direct international flights so passengers have to fly via Turkey.

It is now possible to cross from the Republic of Cyprus to the Turkish-run north at several points. You will need to show your passport and fill in a form at the border to obtain a free visa. Car crossings are at Ayios Dhometios, in western Nicosia, and Strovilia, near Famagusta. There is also a pedestrian-only crossing at Ledra Palace, in central Nicosia, which involves a short walk through an area of no man’s land. You can get a taxi from either Larnaka or Paphos to Nicosia. Expect to pay between ?30-?40.00.
