Spring is in the air and thanks to Gordon Brown's latest budget, it seems that a jaunt over to Calais for a boozy bargain bonanza is just the tonic to raise the British spirit.
With savings of over £2.50 on a bottle of wine and up to £10 on a bottle of Champagne it's well worth making the trip. Look at it this way - if you were to buy 70 bottles of bubbly for a reception or a wedding and saved just £5 a bottle you'll be £350 better off - enough to pay for an entire weekend away!
Plus you can do a weekly shop in one of the hypermarkets and expect an overall saving of around 20%.
Getting there and back is still good value - P&O are willing to take a car plus 9 people there and back from £25 for the fare.

Bon Voyage!
PS. To save time in Calais, slip a copy of The Channel Hoppers Guide in your pocket. It tells you where to go and what to buy with directions.
