Nationality: Anguillian

Location: Anguilla is a small Caribbean (just 16 miles long and 3 miles wide) located in the British West Indies about 150 miles (241km) east of Puerto Rico and 9 miles (14km) north of St Martin. It is the northernmost of the Leeward islands.

Flying Time:

Airport: Wallblake Airport (AXA) Tel: +1 264 497 2384. This airport is located 1 mile (2km) south of The Valley. Transfers from the airport are readily available in the form of taxis.

Departure Tax: EC$53 (adults), EC$26.50 (children 5-11); payment can also be made in US dollars.

Getting around: There is no public transportation system, so you'll need to rent a car if you want to explore the island. Options include Carib (tel 264/497-6020), Connor's (tel 264/497-6433) or Triple K (tel 264/497-2934) and you can expect to pay US$45-50 a day. Most of the rental companies are based in The Valley, but will normally either deliver to your hotel or pick you up and bring you to their offices. Temporary licences cost US$20 and are supplied by the car rental company. Note: drive on the left.

Tipping: 10% may be included in your bills. Extra tipping is discretionary.

Entry requirements: Visitors require a valid passport valid for six months after the date of entry, and a return or onward ticket with sufficient funds for the duration of the stay.

Note: As of 23 January 2007 all persons, including US citizens, travelling by air between the USA and Canada, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda are required to present a valid passport or other approved document when entering or re-entering the USA. This applies to those travelling by land or sea . Health: Travellers arriving from infected areas require a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Hepatitis A vaccinations are recommended for all travellers as well as polio and tetanus vaccinations. It is advisable to get a hepatitis B vaccination if travellers will have intimate contact with the locals, especially if staying for over 6 months. Take advice from your doctor.

Anguilla's water is chlorinated so it is advisablet to drink bottled water (widely available). Travel/medical insurance is highly recommended.

Safety: Anguilla enjoys a low crime rate but there are hurricanes between June and November.

Climate: The Average year round temperature is 80 degrees. The heat is tempered locally by trade winds. Annual rainfall averages 14cm (35in) with a hurricane season that extends from June to November.

Culture and Etiquette: Nude and topless bathing is not allowed.
