Autumn may be on its way but it comes after what’s been a summer of love, with 95% of the freshly tanned saying a holiday is a great way to increase or find romance in their lives.

But - according to a survey of single and attached travellers by Opodo.co.uk, we’re not a nation of randy holidaymakers.  

When asked to pick the key ingredients for a romance-filled trip either with a partner or holiday fling, sex came in bottom with just 12% of attached respondents rating it as key, and 23% of single people saying the same.

On the other hand, over half rated humour as top of the list for making a holiday romantic, followed by good conversation which scored 41% amongst those with partners, and 37% with single respondents.

However, for those who are looking for a bit of rough and tumble, the beach came out on top (36%) as the best place respondents had done it on holiday, with 3% choosing the mile-high club, and even 2% saying a session on the coach transfer was best.         

Other findings from the survey include the joint first position of Iguazu Falls on the Brazilian and Argentine border, and the hilltops in rural New Zealand as the most romantic places to watch a sunset (50% in total), whilst London’s River Thames managed just 3%.
