Jetstar, a Quantas subsidiary, has announced a "world first" technology breakthrough that issues boarding passes via standard mobile phone text messages. A number of other airlines currently offer cellphone boarding passes via WAP or internet enabled phones but this new system has the advantage of working with any mobile phone. Jetstar plans to offer automatic check-in 24 hours prior to departure in conjunction with the new system, "freeing staff to deal with check baggage".
