Palma targeted by bombers
Three bombs exploded yesterday [Sunday 9th August] in the Majorcan capital of Palma.
The first went off in a beachfront bar and restaurant following by two further blasts at another nearby restaurant and in a town square
No-one was injured.
A warning had been given the Basque separatist group, ETA which earlier admitted responsibility for a bomb attack in Majorca last month which killed two Civil Guard officers.
ETA claimed responsibility for a bomb attack in the resort of Palma Nova in July and for three other bombings in Spain this summer, which together claimed three lives and injured dozens more.
Sunday’s first small device exploded is reported to have exploded in the toilet of a bar-restaurant called La Rigoletta, in front of a beach called Can Pere Antoni.
People had been evacuated from the restaurant and the area was later sealed off by police.
The blast is reported to have been a controlled explosion carried out by police.
A third smaller bomb reportedly went off in a shopping centre under the central square, the Plaza Mayor.
