The inaugural flight broke the longest-running monopoly on an air route in the world. Zoom is the first airline to compete with British Airways on the route since 1967.

Zoom is an established low-fares, full-service airline and will operate twice-weekly direct flights.  One-way flights start at £199 including all taxes, fees and charges. Flights are available at www.flyzoom.com or by phone on 0870 240 0055.

Passengers will also be able to plan two-centre breaks in Bermuda and New York, flying direct from London Gatwick to New York’s JFK and returning via Bermuda or vice versa.

Passengers using the new service also benefit from a flexible booking system which enables them to travel without any restrictions such as staying over a Saturday night. Economy and Premium Economy services are offered, and Zoom includes complimentary meals and soft drinks in all fares.

John Boyle, co-owner of Zoom Airlines Ltd, said: “Today marks another exciting milestone in the low-cost air travel revolution. Our services to Bermuda offer people a high quality but affordable way of travelling. Competition is long overdue and Zoom’s arrival will provide a welcome alternative for people who’ve had no choice but to pay BA’s high fares to Bermuda for the last 40 years.”

“What makes this even more exciting is the opportunity of a twin stay in New York and Bermuda with Zoom scheduled direct flights from London Gatwick.”

How Zoom compares:

An economy fare from London to Bermuda with Zoom costs £360. The same with BA costs £1,232 - a saving of 71%

A premium economy return fare including Saturday night stay in July with Zoom costs £598. The same with BA costs £1,334 - a saving of 56%

Zoom has operated full-service, low-cost flights from the UK to Canada for the last three years and has recently been granted permission to operate from London Gatwick as an official UK carrier to the United States alongside British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
