Hotel Review: Andersen Boutique Hotel, Copenhagen, Denmark

by Peter Da Silva
Anderson hotel, Copenhagen

The Andersen Boutique Hotel has been run by the same family for 80 years and was named after the current general manager’s – Karen Nedergaard  – grandmother, Erna Andersen.

It has a central location in trendy Vesterbro, Copenhagen’s meat-packing district and offers a stylish and bright environment which goes against the grain of the usual minimalist Scandinavian style seen elsewhere.

From the outside, you can see the bright coloured curtains that grace the bedroom windows – purples, limes and blues – and as you enter The Andersen Hotel you get a real sense of colour in line with Designers Guild designs known for their bold statements in decor.

One of the perks of staying in this hip hotel is its concept24: you get to keep your room for 24 hours from the time you check in, making late check-out available to everyone.

Who For

City breakers and business travellers and those spending a couple of days before embarking on a cruise.

A courtyard with outdoor seating is located at the peaceful area at the back of the hotel whilst a beautiful bio fireplace by Vauni is a lovely space where you can sit and knit, yes knit! Get your knitting needles to work and knit scarves for the homeless which are given out throughout the winter months.

An honesty bar is available 24 hours with a wide selection of spirits. Daily ‘Wine Hour’ between 5pm and 6pm is a great innovative way to meet fellow travellers over a few complimentary glasses of wine.

Bikes are available for hire too.

Food and Drink

There isn’t a restaurant at the hotel so only breakfast is served. Breakfast is an extensive choice of Danish and international hot and cold dishes served over a buffet with a wide selection of organic produce. The buffet includes diverse fresh juices to the wide selection of Danish breads and cold cuts, smoked salmon and cheeses. You won’t go hungry!

Also, on each floor guests find treats including Danish biscuits and sweets in case you get hungry on the climb to your bedroom.

Wi Fi Available?

Yes, throughout the hotel and with no extra charges.

Value for money

A night starts from around £145 B&B for double occupancy which represents very good value in an, at times, expensive city.
