When you combine a sensational venue like Central Hall Westminster, place 1000 flickering candles on and around the stage, and put a quartet of three violinists and a bass in the middle of that scene, you know it’s going to be a magical experience.
Music by candlelight, a concept created by Fever, is a big thing these days. The formula is to find sensational venues suitable for shows like this and transform music by all sorts of bands and musicians (including Leonard Cohen and Adele) into classic sounds.
I chose a Queen and ABBA show. The music was freshly reimagined to produce a gloriously classical sound. Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, when played, was quite frankly elevated into an emotional sphere. I do not doubt that everyone in the audience was singing along in their heads to this and also the other songs in the set.
When the final song was We Will Rock You, was played, the audience was invited to stamp their feet or clap in time with the music.
VERDICT: What Fever have created is an opportunity to introduce this kind of sound to those who don’t generally listen to classical music. And they have done this really well. Everyone should go.
