Geneva gives tourists free money to spend in their city

by Sharron Livingston

Geneva Tourism is offering travellers an incentive to visit their city: Free money.

You will be handed a Geneva Gift Card of 100CHF (approx. £84/$USD 111) to spend at a range of hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars and even some activities to sweeten the experience, such as the Local Flavours Chocolate Tour.

Included in the mix are Michelin starred restaurants, to museums, galleries and city tours.

What’s the catch? To be eligible you must book a minimum of two nights in a participating hotel or guesthouse in the Canton of Geneva. You will be given the voucher when you check-in. Only one is given per room.

The small print:

  1. The voucher can be used until 31 December 2020. The voucher is personal, non-transferable and valid only if completed in full.
  2. The Geneva Gift Card is valid only in establishments that have agreed to participate in the “Geneva Gift Card” action and that have registered with the Geneva Tourism & Convention Foundation. This applies to tourist service providers, hotels, guest houses, restaurants, cafés, bars and wine-growers.
  3. The amount of the voucher cannot be converted into cash. Any outstanding balance will not be refunded.
