The cute Roseate House boutique hotel and its 47 rooms are arranged over three 1842 Grade II listed Victorian houses on Westbourne Terrace. It has a slightly off-road location hidden by trees, and though in central London, bedrooms are peacefully quiet.
A whitewashed pillared entrance leads to a small check-in area to the left and the small Hyde restaurant and bar to its right. It’s was easy, slick check-in with courteous help on hand to take up my luggage and show you the way to my room. Actually, service is impeccable.

Anyone looking to stay in charming accommodation located in a peaceful part of London that’s also excellently located for Hyde Park and Paddington.

Roseate House hotel has maintained or restored Victorian style and flair in all its 47 rooms and suites. Some have four-poster beds in the suites with vintage artworks and furniture throughout.
Room 103, Roseate House
Mine was suite103, stylish with dark green walls, with a living area and an ensuite with a deep bath and Penhaligon toiletries.
This room also has a balcony accessible from the living area and the bedroom. I was lucky to have a sunny morning and enjoyed a quiet coffee (made in the room using their coffee machine), doused in warm rays, with a direct eyeline to the church opposite.
I had to climb (literally, as it is unusually high) into my satisfyingly comfortable four-poster bed and settled into 100% Irish cotton sheets. Plus there’s a lovely mahogany writing desk and plenty of cupboard storage.
The room has two flat-screen TVs, one in the bedroom and the other in the living space, where seating was a beautiful vintage sofa and armchair.

Hyde Restaurant
The Hyde restaurant is an elegant yet small restaurant, and with just 20 or so covers is an intimate environment with muted lighting. The various vintage oil paintings and portraits that lorded it over the area gave the space the type of demeanour that my fellow diner and I felt we had to talk in whispered tones.

Cuisine is pretty much British/Eurpean fare. If you fancy a nightcap, the bar specialises in rare whiskies, and there are 15 whiskies available. In any case, you can prop up the restaurant’s elegant and tranquil bar with whatever your tipple is.

Breakfast is also served in the Hyde. The restaurant is a beautiful space, and the entire menu is à la carte (no buffet). Full English is available with a veggie option. I chose an omelette that came soft and creamy. There is an option to take breakfast in their garden too.
Tip: Book the night before if you can, as there are only 20 or so covers.
Incidentally, the Hyde also has an afternoon tea, which I hear is lovely though I didn’t stay long enough to try it.

Take a stroll to Hyde Park or Kensington Gardens, or if you have tickets for a show at The Royal Albert Hall, Roseate House is conveniently close for that too. Marble Arch, Merchant Street and shopping havens of Oxford Street, High Street Kensington and Portobello Road are all within walking distance. Nearest stations are Lancaster Gate and Paddington. Some may stay here for a convenient onward journey to Heathrow airport.
VERDICT:
Roseate House hotel offers laid-back elegance, great service and comfortable beds surrounded by plenty of artwork and whispers of a bygone Victorian era at rates that are really good value for money.
