There has been an inn on the same site as this hotel since the eighteenth century when the Inn of the Sign of the Talbot was granted a licence to sell ale in 1768. The name of this inn, which was both a hotel and a working farm, was changed to The Grosvenor Arms in 1874.

By then the property had become part of the Grosvenor Estate and the head of the Grosvenor family had been granted the title of Duke of Westminster. During their ownership the hotel was refurbished in 1897 and it was then the Grosvenor Coat of Arms was incorporated in the crest over the entrance. The exterior of this Grade II listed building remains the same to this day. It was sold on by the Grosvenor in 1919 and had a variety of owners until the Nelson family took it over in 1994 and since then have transformed it into the superb four star hotel it is now.
