USA has the most instagram-worthy route in the world

America’s 2,448 mile long Route 66 has been papped 1,198,035 times making it the most Instagram-worthy road trip in the world, and the most popular looking back over the summer months.

A study conducted by Travel Supermarket suggests that 52% of the world’s most Instagrammable road trips and pit stops can be found in the Americas, with 20% spanning across South America and 32% across North America. Causeway Coastal Route in Northern Ireland brings the UK into the top 25 with 14,548 snaps making it the 20th most popular road trip in the world.

The EU is a strong contender with both Iceland and Norway in the top 10, followed closely behind by Italy and Norway in the top 20.

With an average of 80 million photos uploaded every single day, Instagram is one of the most popular online platforms for photo sharing. Image hashtags for some of the most picturesque road trips and pit stops, such as #route66 and #greatoceanroad, have meant it was possible to discover the most popular among Instagram users.

Route 66 came top, followed by The Great Ocean Road in Australia which came in second with 928,503 #greatoceanroad tags

Surprisingly, Iceland’s Ring Road only reached seventh place and was papped just 104,374 times with #ringroad while the spectacular Troll Road in Norway came in eighth place with 55,800 #trollstigen tags.

The Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia, Canada came in at number 10 with 51,562 #cabottrail tags.
