London is the city with the best reputation in the world, according to the New York-based Reputation Institute. The institute studied 100 cities across the world for its '2011 City RepTrak' report. The results were collated by measuring the inhabitants' levels of trust, esteem, admiration and positive feelings the public holds towards their city, as well as perceptions across 13 attributes that relate to the economy and administration and overall appeal. More than 35,000 respondents in 15 countries were questioned and the results revealed that London took top position, followed by Geneva, Sydney, Vienna and Venice. The report suggests that Londoners are finding solace in London's hosting of the 2012 Olympics. When contacted about the study's findings, London & Partners' Chief Executive Gordon Innes said, "As the official promotional organisation for London, we are delighted with this accolade recognising our reputation as a world class city. "The top rating demonstrates London's enduring appeal to visitors, students and businesses. The many enhancements to the city in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will ensure the capital continues to be trusted and admired by the global community and Londoners alike." Surprisingly, world cities such as New York and Hong Kong trailed behind in 25th and 46th places. The Reputation Institute also measured whether a city was perceived as safe for visitors and residents and could explain this these cities poor rankings. "The study shows that a strong city reputation requires hard work across many different areas – having cultural appeal or being an international business hub is simply not enough," says Nicolas Trad, Executive Partner of Reputation Institute, a global consulting firm specializing in reputation management. CommentsAshley Miles, Thatcham, England I agree and i believe London is a Great Capital for the Greatest Country in history and its going to increase popularity with the London Olympic coming to it 12 January, 2012 Dani, Ottawa, Canada I disagree plus 35000 respondents from 15 different countries? That does not really provide the sentiment of a population. В London would not be my top choice. Although hosting the olympics might shine the light on them a little bit. 4 December, 2011 Ian Macniven, Hull, England London is great ...so long as you don't mind overpriced Hotels, Food and Drink and Attractions all experienced under leaden skies and in the midst of perhaps the least friendly population in Great Britain. I suggest travellers save their money and head for any of the cities of South East Asia. 3 December, 2011 Angela Bailey, Chicago London is a beautiful city, with a decent reputation, and if there's a whole institute out there tracking these things, well... they're probably right. However, the city has had it's share of riots and unrest in the past few years. If I had a choice to go somewhere this year, all things considered... I think that it would be Paris. 2 December, 2011 Add Your CommentPlease note: all comments will be manually verified by our staff before appearing on the site.
