Garuda Airline Crash In Java

Garuda Indonesia has expressed its profound sorrow to the families and loved ones of casualties from the crash of one of the airline’s Boeing 737 400 aircraft in Java and has set up an emergency line to assist them.

In addition to assuming the medical costs of all passengers, the Indonesian national carrier has set up emergency numbers for victims’ families. Relatives can phone +62 021-2311393, fax +62 021-2311105 or Garuda Call Centre 2351-9999 or 0 807 1 807 807.

A statement summarized the facts it had to hand at that point:

1. Flight GA200 departed Jakarta at 0600 hours local time and was scheduled to arrive in Yogyakarta at 0655 local time.

2. The Boeing 737 400 series aircraft, registration PK-GZC, was piloted by Capt. M. Marwoto Komar who has worked with Garuda Indonesia since 1985. There were 133 passengers and seven crew on board.

3. The flight caught fire when it reached the end of runway 9 at Adi Sucipto airport, Yogyakarta. At the time of the afternoon statement, the fire had been extinguished.

4. At that point 93 passengers had been successfully evacuated. They were taken to two hospitals – Panti Ratih and Panti Rini (Tel: +62 274 497 206). The evacuation process was still continuing this afternoon, conducted by Garuda technical staff and assisted by other organizations.
